Aerial view of a solar farm in farmland

Ground-mount and utility-scale solar

From a ground-mount array behind the shed to a multi-megawatt site, we assess the land, the grid connection and the economics, then develop the project from concept through approvals to construction.

What's included

  • Site and grid connection feasibility
  • Yield modelling, layout and financial assessment
  • Network connection application and consent pathway
  • Engineering design, procurement and construction coordination
  • Commissioning, monitoring and operational support

From paddock to power station

A solar farm is a land, grid and finance question before it is a panel question. We start by assessing the site itself: slope, shading, access, flood risk and the distance to a network connection point that can take the export. Then we model the yield and the revenue, and tell you plainly whether the project stacks up.

If it does, we take it through design, the network connection application, the consent or exemption pathway, procurement and construction coordination to commissioning and operation.

Ground-mount for farms and businesses

Not every project is a utility-scale site. A ground-mount array of 30 to 300 kW beside a dairy shed, a packhouse or a factory can be the best option when the roof is the wrong shape or orientation. The design, approval and installation process is the same, just faster.

Engineered and project managed

Solar Scope’s electrical engineers lead the design and the approvals. Construction, electrical work and civil works are delivered by SEANZ-authorised, EWRB-registered contractors and specialist crews under our coordination.

How the job runs

  1. Step 1 of 3

    Feasibility

We assess the land, shading, access, the nearest network connection and the likely export terms, and give you a go or no-go with the numbers.

  2. Step 2 of 3

    Design and approvals

Layout, yield model, electrical design, network application and the consent or exemption pathway, coordinated by our engineers.

  3. Step 3 of 3

    Build and operate

Procurement, construction coordination, commissioning and a monitoring set-up you can run, with support after energisation.

Solar farms: common questions

How much land does a solar farm need?

Roughly 1.5 to 2 hectares per megawatt as a rule of thumb, depending on the layout and the terrain. We confirm it with a site-specific yield model.

Can I keep farming under the panels?

Often, yes. Sheep grazing and some cropping work under and between rows. Agrivoltaic layouts are part of what we assess.

What size projects do you take on?

From ground-mount arrays of tens of kilowatts for a farm or business, up to utility-scale sites.

What is the grid connection process?

We identify the nearest connection point, apply to the network company, and manage the studies and agreements that follow. The connection is usually the longest lead item, so we start it early.

Do you build the solar farm yourselves?

We develop, design and coordinate. Construction and electrical work are by SEANZ-authorised, EWRB-registered contractors and specialist civil crews under our project management.
