Ground-mounted solar array beside a commercial building

Commercial solar for NZ businesses

Offices, warehouses, schools, retirement villages and golf clubs run their biggest loads in daylight, which is when solar produces. We model your interval data, size the system to the building and manage the project through to commissioning.

  • Free site assessment and quote
  • Engineer-designed systems
  • 10-year workmanship warranty

Solar for buildings that work in daylight

Offices, manufacturing plants, warehouses, schools, colleges, retirement villages, hotels, motels and golf clubs share one thing: most of their electricity is used between 8am and 6pm. That is the solar production window, so a well-sized commercial system offsets grid power directly instead of exporting it at a low rate.

We start with your interval data. Half-hourly usage from your retailer shows exactly when the building draws power, and we size the array and any battery to that curve. The proposal shows expected bill savings, payback and the options: solar only, solar with battery, or a staged system that is battery-ready and expandable.

Engineered, not just installed

Solar Scope is run by electrical and electronics engineers. System engineering, detailed design, network connection applications and consent exemption assistance are done in-house. Installation, testing and commissioning are carried out by SEANZ-authorised, EWRB-registered electrical contractors, and we coordinate the whole project so you deal with one team.

Panels are premium brands selected to suit the site, including Jinko Solar, LONGi, AIKO, JA Solar and Canadian Solar, with Sungrow, Sigenergy and Enphase inverters. Final product selection depends on the project.

After the switch-on

Handover includes monitoring set-up and training for your staff, so you can see production and consumption day to day. We stay on for technical support, and can add EV charging for staff or fleet vehicles, or battery storage for backup and peak shaving, when the numbers support it.

How the job runs

  1. Step 1 of 3

    Interval data review

We obtain half-hourly usage from your retailer and match it to the site, so the system is sized to what you use in daylight rather than a nameplate guess.

  2. Step 2 of 3

    Options and proposal

You get system options with modelled savings, payback and an implementation plan, including battery and EV charging provisions if they stack up.

  3. Step 3 of 3

    Approvals and install

We lodge the network connection application, arrange any structural review, then our installers fit and commission the system with minimal disruption.

Commercial solar: common questions

What size commercial system do you design?

From around 10 kW for a small office up to several hundred kilowatts on a factory or school roof.

Can you show the savings before we commit?

Yes. A recent power bill gives an estimate at roughly 80 to 85 percent accuracy. Twelve months of half-hourly data from your retailer lifts that to roughly 90 to 95 percent, and we help you request it.

Do we need building consent?

Most roof-mounted systems qualify for a consent exemption. We assess that, and where the roof structure needs checking we bring in a CPEng-qualified engineer.

Who does the installation?

Registered, SEANZ-authorised electrical contractors we work with on every project. Solar Scope designs, procures and coordinates, then tests and hands over.

Is finance available?

Finance can be introduced through third-party lenders or project partners. Ask during the assessment and we will point you to the options.

What warranties apply?

A 10-year workmanship warranty, typically up to 25 years product warranty and 30 years linear performance warranty on panels, and manufacturer warranties on inverters and batteries, commonly 10 years.
