Solar panels on the roof of a farm shed

Solar for dairy, poultry and rural properties

Milking sheds, poultry sheds, coolstores, greenhouses and irrigation pumps are heavy daytime users on big roofs and open land. We design farm systems around your load profile, from a solar pump to a shed roof array with battery.

  • Free site assessment and quote
  • Engineer-designed systems
  • 10-year workmanship warranty

Rural and farm solar across the North Island

What's included

  • Free farm assessment from your power bills or half-hourly data
  • Shed roof, ground-mount or solar pump systems sized to the operation
  • Battery options for milking and irrigation loads outside daylight
  • Network connection application and consent exemption handled for you
  • Installation by SEANZ-authorised installers, then monitoring and training

Farms are built for solar

A dairy shed, a poultry shed or a coolstore has a long roof facing the sky and a power bill that runs all year. Vacuum pumps, milk vats, water heating, ventilation, feed lines, refrigeration and irrigation pumps all draw power in daylight, so a farm system offsets a large share of the bill without needing to export much.

We design for dairy farms, poultry and goat farms, orchards, greenhouses and irrigation sites across the Waikato, Taranaki and the wider North Island. Each design starts with your actual usage: a recent bill for a first estimate, then 12 months of half-hourly data from your retailer to size the system properly.

Ground-mounted solar arrays beside farm buildings

Shed roof, ground-mount or solar pump

Where the shed roof suits, that is usually the simplest install. Where it does not, a ground-mount array beside the shed gives the ideal angle and easier cleaning. For remote water, a solar irrigation pump or stock water pump can run standalone with no line charges at all.

Battery storage is modelled, not assumed. If the evening milking or night-time irrigation is the bigger load, we show what a Sigenergy, BYD, Sungrow or Tesla battery adds to the savings and what it costs, and you decide.

One team from bill to switch-on

Solar Scope handles the feasibility, the design, the network connection application and any consent exemption. Installation and commissioning are by SEANZ-authorised, EWRB-registered electrical contractors, timed around your operation. After handover you get monitoring, training and ongoing support.

How the job runs

  1. Step 1 of 3

    Understand the load

Dairy, poultry and irrigation loads have their own daily shape. We review usage by the half hour and by season before we size anything.

  2. Step 2 of 3

    Design for the site

Shed roof, ground-mount beside the shed, or a standalone solar pump. Structure, shading, dust and wash-down are all part of the design.

  3. Step 3 of 3

    Install and monitor

Our installers fit and commission the system between milkings or around the season, then you watch production on the monitoring app.

Rural and farm solar: common questions

Does solar work for a dairy shed when milking is early and late?

Refrigeration, water heating, vacuum pumps and effluent pumps run through the day, so a shed still uses a lot of daylight power. Where the evening milking is the bigger load we model a battery against it and show you the payback either way.

Can you power an irrigation or stock water pump with solar?

Yes. Solar irrigation pumps and solar stock water pumps are part of what we design, either as standalone off-grid pump systems or fed from a larger array.

What about poultry and goat sheds?

Ventilation, lighting, feed systems and climate control are steady daytime loads that suit solar well. Long shed roofs give plenty of room for panels.

Do orchards and greenhouses suit solar?

Coolstores, packhouses and greenhouse climate control are strong candidates. Greenhouses and orchards can also carry ground-mount or agrivoltaic arrays where the land allows.

Is the array safe with dust and wash-down?

Panels are rated for outdoor and farm conditions and we specify mounting and cabling for the environment. We also offer panel cleaning for arrays near yards and tracks.

Which regions do you cover for farm work?

The Waikato first, then Taranaki and the Manawatū, with the wider North Island through our sales and installation network.
